Patrick Honnebier stands out as a legal professional, boasting an extensive academic background and considerable practical expertise in the realm of international aviation finance and lease laws. In 2017 he aligned his expertise with Rep Law and subsequently he joined the team of Rep De Cuba in 2024. He is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Patrick is highly regarded for providing expert guidance to major manufacturers, banks, lessors, private operators, and airlines concerning the intricate landscape of international aircraft, helicopters, and engine financing and leasing. He lectures in Air and Space Law program at the University of Mississippi, School of Law. He is responsible for the Spring Semester module on International Aviation Financing and Leasing Laws, a globally unique course.
Patrick also teaches Conflict of Laws aspects in financing and leasing transactions at Groningen University, the Netherlands. For a decade, he was responsible for the international aviation financing law course at the International Institute of Air and Space Law, Leiden University. He also taught corporate and commercial law at both Utrecht University and the University of Aruba.
Patrick's involvement in significant international legal conferences underscores his global influence. He participated in the Diplomatic Conference that led to the creation of the Convention on International Interest in Mobile Equipment and the Aircraft Equipment Protocol in Cape Town, South Africa (2001). Furthermore, he provided expert legal counsel to the Governments of Aruba, the former Netherlands Antilles, and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, regarding the adoption by the Kingdom of The Netherlands of the Cape Town Convention on 1 September 2010.
Patrick advises the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, Directorate of Civil Aviation, of the Netherlands on pioneering regulations concerning aircraft repossession, export, and deregistration cases in challenging foreign jurisdictions. His pursuit of academic excellence was acknowledged by a government grant from the Netherlands, supporting scholarly research on financial lease transactions at the Université de Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris-I) in 1998.
